From AnnArbor.com: With three residence halls scheduled to be closed next fall at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, a large number of returning students who would prefer on-campus housing will have to look off-campus. This year, total on-campus housing capacity this year is 11,701. That will drop to roughly 11,130 next year as one hall reopens and three close.
A program that brings UCSF scientists into San Francisco’s public schools and sponsors internships for the brightest high school students in the city has won a presidential award for its mentoring programs in science, math and engineering, the White House announced.
The Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring comes with a $25,000 prize, which will be awarded at a White House ceremony this year.

Jack Raykovitz was CEO of The Second Mile children’s charity for nearly 30 years.
When Jack Raykovitz stepped down from his position as CEO of The Second Mile charity on Sunday, he was receiving a salary of more than $132,000.
Thats higher than the national average and national median salaries for CEOs of similar charities of a similar size.
Raykovitz led The Second Mile, which is at the center of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, starting in 1983.
According to the most recent Nonprofit Compensation Report from GuideStar.com, the national average salary for top executives at youth development charities with a budget of $1 million to $5 million was $115,179. The national median salary was $108,000.
The Second Mile had a budget last year of $2.4 million.

The State Education Department is considering relaxing some requirements for how students with special needs are served, a cost-cutting bid that has advocates worried.
The state has asked the Board of Regents to approve a slate of mandate relief measures at its monthly meeting next week. The measures that SED wants lifted include the requirement that a psychologist weigh in every time disabled students individualized education plans are changed and the prescription of specific tests when a student who is suspected of having a disability is first evaluated.
Currently, school psychologists are full-time members of special education committees that make all decisions related to a students IEP, but the new regulation would only require them to consult on initial IEP meetings.
In addition, the new regulations would no longer require psychological evaluations, speech and language tests and assessments from therapists, all of which are currently conducted when a student is first diagnosed.
Such services are costly and districts complain that the mandates go above and beyond what is required for many of their students.
