Wesleyan starts entrepreneurship center
Wesleyan University students will soon have some extra help starting programs serving the public good.
The Middletown university is establishing the Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship. The program will provide workshops, speakers and networking events to help students learn to pursue their ideas.
It will also award small grants to undergraduates for specific projects.
The Robert and Margaret Patricelli Family Foundation is giving $2 million for the center, which is expected to draw on alumni, parents and others to share their experiences in developing social entrepreneurship ventures.
Robert Patricelli is a 1961 Wesleyan graduate and the head of Evolution Benefits and of Women’s Health USA. He says he believes the same entrepreneurial instincts used in business are well-suited to social causes and nonprofit ventures.
